Hot news for Italian goth-classical combo VIOLET TEARS who have completed the recording of their first full-length album, following up their Fragments of Broken Dreams mini album released back in 2001, which has received critical acclaim from the international press. This has secured them a deal with American The Fossil Dungeon who will release later this year the Cold Memories and Remains album. A remarkable step forward for this talented group which we had met in issue Nr. 7 soon after the publication of Fragments of Broken Dreams. We caught up with the band to ask them about the forthcoming album and about their recipe for reaching to the States all the way from South Italy...

DARKLIFE: ...I guess it has a lot to do with hard work, doesn't it...?

VIOLET TEARS: We carried on our project for a long time and it's been hard to get as far as where we are now... We made many short steps, always convinced that sooner or later someone would trust us, and now this relationship with The Fossil Dungeon...

DL: How did the contact with The Fossil Dungeon come about?

VT: We contacted Michael and The Fossil Dungeon soon afterwards the publication of Fragments of Broken Dreams, and immediately caught his fancy. He appreciated a lot our music and we appreciated as well the F.D. style, but Fragment... was a mini-cd, so our partnership has taken shape just now, after the recording of Cold Memories and Remains.

DL: Please introduce shortly the new album.

VT: Cold Memories... follows ideally the sonorities of our first work and we could say that it's a sort of its continuation. Some tracks of the album, for example Silence or Don't Wake Me Up, were ready since the recording of Fragments..., but we didn't include them because they needed more time to be improved. The songs are slower and more sad in mood and generally more atmospheric than the past... We managed well to represent what we felt. We think that those who appreciated Fragments... will be fascinated from this new work.

DL: Can you anticipate what the listener can expect in terms of sound? So you have followed on the path traced with Fragments...

VT: As we said our style is even more mature: intimate keyboards sounds are cut by sharp guitars and sustained by slow and rhythmic drums. We always use a lead female vocal replaced or twisted by a male one in some songs. It's truly too hard to describe all the emotions we hold in this album, however we think the result has been sweet and yearning.

DL: What are your expectations from your teaming with The Fossil Dungeon ?

VT: We hope to achieve a greater visibility to spread our music. F.D. is an important distribution channel and give great care to new musical realities. Michael works hard and is really kind, two important quality that will lead The Fossil Dungeon to grow, and us with them too...

DL: You have so far performed in Italy only, any anticipations on possible dates/tours abroad?

VT: At the moment we have no dates in Europe, only in Italy: from October we'll play around to present and promote the new release, but we hope, also thanks to the partnership with the F.D., to play soon abroad.

DL: Can we expect a release or a licensing for the European market?

VT: Not at the time... It would be an interesting thing and a further chance to show ourselves, but we're really very pleased with what, til now, we have done.

DL: The classical last words to our readers...

VT: Some years ago, thanks to Darklife, some people wrote us as they were made curious by VIOLET TEARS and appreciated our sound‚ we hope other people will be interested in discovering more about us now as well!!!

DL: Good luck and I hope to be able to catch you soon at some European stage/festival!
