Ministry
have never left the stage really, although, in all honesty,
their relevance has sort of faded over the years and they
haven't really managed to stir up that much interest as in
their heydays anymore. Their works have been quite
instrumental in changing the face of rock music, giving it a
hard-line twist, with a combination of well thought-of
elements such as sampling, pushing rhythms, some of the best
engineered vocals around for the genre and -god forbid- even
those dreaded hard guitars. They even spun a whole genre, I
would say, although, there has been no act to date to even
come close to the quintessential power and rigorous anarchy
Ministry stood
for, even though, as usual, many of the acts they spun went
on to greater celebrity than they ever did themselves. Call
it a result of force-feeding the kids with the latest trend.
Back in the days, it was a pulsating Chicago and a great
label -Wax Trax- who led the
process of updating rock music for what is worth, ever since
The Ramones
did it some fifteen years earlier with widely recognised
results. With Rantology
we have the chance to get a great overview of
Ministry's
best moments, much of them slightly updated to fit the step
up in technology to these days. That's simply a case of
re-mastering some of the titles and adding new subdued, yet
intriguing elements or samples, still nothing really that
alters the original sharp and raw great feel of the original
compositions. Good examples are the immortal
New World Order
or Jesus Built My Hotrod,
just to pick two of the highlights out of the bunch. Even
more interesting news is the proposition of three milestone
titles in live version, namely
Thieves , The
Fall
and the anthemic Psalm
69.
A new track is also showcased, unimaginatively titled
The Great Satan,
with the intent of giving a sneak preview of what the band
is going to deliver sometimes in spring 2006. How that
compares to the glorious past catalogue, we'll let it up to
you to decide, as you have the chance right now to get a
copy of this powerful r-antology delivered to you for free
when you place an order for Darklife
X. But I can anticipate you won't be disappointed!
Despite that title! Find the complete tracklist and the
simple terms of the competition printed left and cheers up
to Sanctuary Records who have
instigated the giveaway of this great CD. The true best of
Ministry
shines through this disc, a great chance for you to catch up
if you thought that Nine Inch Nails,
or anyone still associating hard guitars and lack of talent
to the misused word "industrial", were your gods. www.prongs.org/ministry Gianfri |
