Maruda - Pérégrínatíons
Wednesday, 7 May 2014
Following on a couple of split releases seeing Maruda engaging mainly in harsh noise colleges, this solo mini-album shifts the paradigm towards creepy and obsessive ambiences, whereby the noise elements gain cinematic connotations that can easily be referred to as 'death ambient'. There's a running theme through the tracks, evoking the far East regions of Nepal, Tibet, Indochina. As the work progresses, the tracks gain subtlety, and the atmospheres become in turn more enigmatic or even bordering on shamanic in a few passages.
Pérégrínatíons is a fine exercise in exotic flavour noisescapes, and, although the exotic touch is generally less obvious that the track titles suggest, the creations are definitely suggestive, opening enthralling horizons of ominous ambient-noise to selected consumers. This is an intriguing twist in the Maruda output to date, stirring up curiosity about future productions by this Genève based outfit.
