The tension of mixed sentiments is the gray zone where depravity and the heinousness of life come across as sublime; the moment of a grimace composed of a multitude of smiles. On « Soleil Noir« , Alexandre Varlet slows time, provoking immediate emotion, combining lyricism and abjectness. Transfiguring decline, infamy becomes sumptuous.

Composed in the cold shadow of a black sun, this album pays homage to the french language while at the same time denying sentimentality for french culture. For discrete and distant echoes of Nick Drake, Syd Barrett and even Coil resonate throughout the disk, bringing forth morriconesques moods, which also evoke the sulfurous Death In June of the early 90s.
